Also worth a look

Free games we have not reviewed yet, so they have no score or rank here. No one pays us for these.

How we ranked these Steam games

Every game in the ranking has a review on this site, and the order follows its score from 0 to 10, nothing else. All 32 are research reviews: the score combines player reviews (40%), what money buys (30%), updates (20%) and access (10%), using official sources and store ratings. Ties are listed alphabetically. Partner links never change the order.

Big free Steam games we have not reviewed yet, such as Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2, are under “Also worth a look” without a rank. They join the ranking when their reviews go up.

Free to play does not mean free of spending

All 32 games cost nothing to download and play, and each one sells something. 4 rate as not pay to win: Once Human, Where Winds Meet, Marvel Rivals and CRSED. In these, official information shows money buying cosmetics, passes and currency, not power. 12 rate as mildly pay to win, because money buys time-savers such as premium accounts and boosters, or strength against the game itself. 16 rate as strongly pay to win, because what money buys counts in PvP.

29 of the 32 sell paid random items such as chests, crates, summons or gacha pulls. Official pages give the odds for all of them in 10 games: Once Human, Arknights: Endfield, Wuthering Waves, World of Warships, World of Tanks, State of Survival, Zenless Zone Zero, AFK Journey, Lords Mobile and Lost Ark.

Free Steam games for a low-end PC
