This Tribal Wars review is based on official sources and player reviews, not on our own play time. InnoGames' medieval strategy MMO has run in browsers since 2003 and also has iOS and Android apps and a Windows and Mac client on Steam. Each world is a persistent PvP map where you grow villages, recruit troops and conquer other players with your tribe. What is Tribal Wars?

Tribal Wars is a free browser-based strategy game set in the Middle Ages, developed and published by InnoGames. Every player starts with one small village, upgrades more than 15 kinds of buildings, such as the academy and the hiding place, and recruits up to nine defensive and offensive unit types, from spear fighters to heavy cavalry. You attack, plunder and conquer other players' villages in real time and band together in tribes. Steam describes it as hardcore PvP strategy in persistent worlds, where an account can grow from one village to hundreds.

Play happens on numbered worlds with their own settings. World 89 on the US server opened on October 9, 2026, with a speed of 1.6, a 15-member tribe limit, three days of beginner protection and a dominance victory condition: after 140 days, a tribe must hold 65% of active villages for 14 days. The US server also runs speed rounds and Casual worlds.

Is Tribal Wars free to play?

Yes. InnoGames' support page says downloading the app and registering in the browser are free of charge, and that you can access all features and play as long as you want without paying. Steam lists the desktop client as free to play, and the App Store and Google Play list the app as free with in-app purchases.

The premium currency is Premium Points (PP). They are sold in the in-game shop, but you can also get them without paying by selling wood, clay or iron in the Premium Exchange, where rates depend on each exchange's stock and capacity. PP gained this way cannot be transferred, and InnoGames says free PP from offers, events and awards are often non-transferable as well.

Events add a free Event Pass lane and their own rewards. In Siege Poker 2026, for example, you receive new War Horns for attacks at regular intervals for free, and extra ones can be bought.

Is Tribal Wars pay to win? What money buys

As of October 30, 2026, the US App Store lists Premium Points from $5.99 for 200 to $79.99 for 8,000, a 30-day Premium Account for $4.99, a 30-day Farm Assistant for $0.99 and 7-day boosts of 20% to wood, clay or iron production for $0.99 each.

World settings show what PP can do. On US World 89, the active premium features are the Premium Account, Account Manager, Farm Assistant, Build Time Reduction, Instant Completion, Build Cost Reduction, +20% Production and the Premium Exchange. Buildings and units cost resources, and the exchange turns PP into resources, so money converts into military growth on a PvP map. InnoGames' FAQ says there is no permanent cap on PP use, though some markets open special low-PP worlds.

Events add a premium Event Pass lane (600 PP in Siege Poker 2026) with rewards such as resource packages and flag boosters. Neither store flags random paid items, but rerolling the random Flag Shop offer in Siege Poker normally costs premium currency, and the event page lists no odds for it.

Based on what the official stores sell, we rate it as strongly pay to win; we will check this again when we play it ourselves.

Tribal Wars on PC, Mac and mobile

On a computer you can play Tribal Wars in a web browser at tribalwars.us, the US market site, or install InnoGames' desktop client from Steam. Steam has listed it since November 12, 2020, as a free Windows and macOS app with cross-platform multiplayer, Steam achievements and in-app purchases, and InnoGames announced the macOS version on Steam later that month.

On phones and tablets, InnoGames offers apps for iOS and Android, and the App Store version also lists Apple Vision Pro support. You can open the browser version on a phone, but InnoGames says it is not properly supported there and will likely cause display problems, so it recommends the apps.

InnoGames' game page lists Browser, iOS and Android and no console version. The international English site is tribalwars.net, while the US server runs its own worlds, forum and additional rules. Tribal Wars 2 is a separate InnoGames game and is not covered here.

Tribal Wars system requirements

The Steam client's Windows minimum is a 64-bit processor and operating system, Windows 7, a Core i3 or equivalent CPU, 512 MB of RAM, a broadband connection and 200 MB of storage; under graphics, Steam lists an SSE2-capable Pentium 4 or later. The Mac minimum is OS X with a 64-bit Intel processor, 512 MB of RAM and 200 MB of storage. Steam gives no recommended specs beyond a 64-bit system.

On mobile, the App Store listing requires iOS or iPadOS 13.0 or later and lists an 83.1 MB download, and Google Play's listing asks for Android 7.1 and up.

For the browser version, InnoGames' support pages mention one network setting: most players need no changes, but players behind very restrictive routers or firewalls may need to forward ports 8080 to 8083 for some game features to work.
