What is Crossout?
Crossout is an online vehicle combat game set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Players assemble buggies, tracked rovers, hovering platforms and armored aircraft from dozens of parts, choosing cabins, weapons, movement parts and hardware, then drive them into multiplayer battles on land and in the air. The damage model lets shots remove individual parts, which changes how a vehicle performs.
The official site lists 78 locations and 12 factions. Players can craft new parts on workbenches and sell or buy almost any part on the in-game market. Battles can be played alone or with a clan, and the October 2026 update lists brawls, clan wars and events among its modes.
Targem Games develops Crossout and Gaijin publishes it. The Xbox store gives a release date of May 30, 2017, and Steam gives July 26, 2017. On October 22, 2026, the game became Crossout Remastered with an engine update that reworked lighting, landscapes, water and effects and added NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR 3.1 support.
Is Crossout free to play?
Yes. The official site offers a free Windows download under a Play for free button, and Steam, the Xbox store and the PlayStation Store list the game as free.
Much of the economy runs through play. Steam's description says almost every part gathered in battle can be sold to other players, and the official site says players can craft new parts and sell them on the market. In-game coins are the market currency. The current Whispers of the Wasteland event gives every player free base rewards: 50 coins, a container with a random high-rarity part, decor, workbench coupons, resource containers and engineer badges.
Real-money options sit on top: vehicle packs, season Battle Passes, event passes and Crosscrowns, an in-game premium currency, all sold in the Gaijin Store. On Steam, the developer asks players to link an existing Gaijin account on the first launch, because linking is not possible later.
Is Crossout pay to win? What money buys
As of October 29, 2026, the Gaijin Store lists these Crossout purchases. The Tamer vehicle packs cost $13.99 (Lite), $29.99 and $64.99 (Deluxe). They include a ready-built vehicle with cabin, weapon and hardware, early access to new structural parts and a higher part limit, and the two larger editions add 1,500 or 4,000 in-game coins. The Deluxe edition also adds a workpiece for a unique legendary cabin that can be crafted or sold on the market.
The Season 23 Battle Pass, New Horizon, costs $9.99; the Elite version costs $34.99, unlocks 15 levels at once and gives all recipes for the season's upgraded parts. The Whispers of the Wasteland event pass costs $9.99, or $19.99 with 10 levels unlocked, and gives buyers a workpiece for a Snowfall (cust.) rocket launcher with its own set of bonuses and a perk that raises projectile speed. Crosscrowns cost from $2.99 for 30 to $99.99 for 1,500 including bonus. The store listings show no paid random containers, and no official page publishes drop rates. Based on what the official stores sell, we rate it as strongly pay to win; we will check this again when we play it ourselves.
Crossout on PC, Mac, consoles and mobile
On PC, Crossout runs on Windows through the official download from crossout.net or through Steam, where it is now listed as Crossout Remastered. Steam lists Windows only, and there is no macOS or Linux version.
The official site links console versions for PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The Xbox store lists the game as Optimized for Xbox Series X|S with Smart Delivery, cross-platform multiplayer, online multiplayer for 2 to 16 players and online co-op for 2 to 8. The October 2026 update added a way for PC players to view the vehicle Exhibition from consoles and the other way around.
Crossout Mobile is a separate game for Android and iOS with its own official site, so it is not covered on this page. Steam players should link their Gaijin account on the first start; the developer says this cannot be done later.
