This Vikings War of Clans review is based on official sources and player reviews, not on our own play time. Plarium's Norse MMO strategy game has been on iOS since 2015 and is free on iPhone, iPad, Android, and on Windows and Mac through the Plarium Play launcher. Money buys Gold and Bank packages with items, resources and equipment, and Apple lists loot boxes for the game.

What is Vikings: War of Clans?

Vikings: War of Clans is an MMO strategy game from Plarium. As a Jarl, you construct and upgrade buildings in your Town, train warriors, study Knowledge to strengthen your Town and army, gather Resources and send Heroes on raids, according to the official page. The store listings add weapon and gear crafting, quests, and buildings such as barracks, manors, a shrine to Odin and a mead hall that hosts reinforcements from clanmates.

The game is built around clans. You can join or create a Clan, fight PvE battles and asynchronous PvP battles against players from around the world, scout enemies, use diplomacy and fight together in clan wars inside your kingdom.

The game came to the US App Store on August 15, 2015, and the official page names Plarium Global Ltd as the developer. Version 7.2.0, released on October 1, 2026, added a new boost to the Asgard Store.

Is Vikings: War of Clans free to play?

Yes. The App Store and Google Play list Vikings: War of Clans as free with in-app purchases. The App Store description says the game is completely free to play, that the optional purchases can be switched off or password-protected in your device settings, and that you need an internet connection. The desktop version comes through Plarium Play, Plarium's free launcher.

Gold is the premium currency. Plarium's official game guide says you can buy Gold in the Bank or earn it through certain game actions, but you cannot produce it in buildings, send it in convoys or take it in attacks. Some Bank purchases also come with free Gold gifts that you claim by hand.

Google Play adds that, depending on the type of item, you may not be able to get your money back for some paid items.

Is Vikings: War of Clans pay to win? What money buys

As as of October 30, 2026, the US App Store lists its top in-app purchases simply as packages at $1.99, $2.99, $3.99, $4.99, $7.99, $9.99, $19.99, $29.99, $49.99 and $99.99. Google Play shows a range of $0.99 to $199.99 per item.

According to Plarium's official guide, the Bank sells packages with items, resources, equipment and Gold, plus time-limited special offers. Gold instantly finishes training, upgrades and construction, and it buys items and boosts that affect economic and military stats. The Bank's Subscriptions tab sells offers that pay out Gold, resources or items every 24 hours for a set period; they do not renew automatically. The Plunderer subscription raises troop capacity and marching speed.

Apple lists Loot Boxes for the game, and Google Play's rating lists In-Game Purchases (Includes Random Items). No official drop-rate page was available to check on October 30, 2026. Paid boosts and equipment carry into PvP attacks on other players' Towns.

Based on what the official stores sell, we rate it as strongly pay to win; we will check this again when we play it ourselves.

Vikings: War of Clans on PC, Mac and mobile

On mobile, Vikings: War of Clans is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad and on Google Play for Android. On desktop, Plarium's official page offers the Plarium Play launcher, and its system requirements cover both Windows and macOS. Plarium Play's own page lists Vikings among its games, supports Windows 10 version 21H1 or newer and macOS Big Sur 11 or newer, and says progress syncs through your Plarium account across platforms.

Plarium's page links no Steam or Epic version. Its Play Now button opens a Plarium ID login on portal.plarium.com, and Plarium also keeps a separate official guide for a browser version of the game. Whether that browser version still runs could not be confirmed without logging in, so this page does not list browser as a platform.

Plarium lists no console version.

Vikings: War of Clans system requirements

Plarium's official page lists desktop requirements for the Plarium Play version.

Minimum: Windows 10 version 21H1 or Windows 11 21H2, or macOS Monterey 12 and later; an Intel Core i3 or AMD Athlon CPU; Intel, AMD Radeon or Nvidia GeForce graphics; 4 GB of RAM; DirectX 11; and 500 MB of storage.

Recommended: Windows 10 version 21H1 or newer (x64) or Windows 11 21H2 or newer (Arm64), or macOS Monterey 12 and later; an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5; 8 GB of RAM; DirectX 11; and the same 500 MB of storage.

On Apple devices, the App Store version needs iOS or iPadOS 15.0 or later and takes about 467 MB. The App Store description says the game needs an internet connection.
