What is Star Trek Fleet Command?

Star Trek Fleet Command is a free-to-play online strategy game from Scopely. You command a starbase at the edge of the Star Trek universe, upgrade it with mines, refineries and defenses, and build a fleet with ships such as the U.S.S. Enterprise, the Romulan Warbird and the Klingon Bird of Prey. You recruit officers such as James T. Kirk, Spock and Nero, and the three main factions, Federation, Klingon and Romulan, each lean toward a different combat style.

The App Store description says the story is set in the Kelvin Timeline and draws on many Star Trek series. Players join alliances to control star systems and fight in armadas.

The game first came out on iOS on November 29, 2018, and Scopely still ships regular content. The Division 12 update arrived in October 2026, and Update 95 in September added Haven, a planetary base for commanders at Ops level 61 and above.

Is Star Trek Fleet Command free to play?

Yes. The official site's main button reads "Play free now," and the App Store and Google Play list the game as free with in-app purchases.

Scopely's patch notes describe a free track in its battle passes. For example, completing the free Division 12 Battle Pass unlocks a Rare officer, and each Territory Capture battle pass gives 50 U.S.S. Kelcie Mae blueprints on the free track, a quarter of that ship's full unlock.

As of October 29, 2026, the top in-app purchases on the US App Store range from $4.99 to $99.99. How far a free commander gets before upgrade timers and resource costs slow progress is something we will measure during our own play sessions, and we will add those numbers here.

Is Star Trek Fleet Command pay to win? What money buys

As of October 29, 2026, the US App Store lists these top in-app purchases: Super Booster Packs at $19.99, a Peace Shield Pack at $4.99, Enhancement Packs at $4.99, Special Offers at $9.99 and $19.99, and both the Tejat Elite Daily Reward Pack and the Inari Station Upgrade Pack at $99.99. Apple's age rating details list loot boxes.

Scopely's patch notes mention Latinum as a currency that can be exchanged for unique ship parts for certain ships, and they describe battle passes and event passes, including a Halloween pass that progresses as you claim daily bundles. Update 95 adds Haven structures with bonuses that include PvP damage, and it says four Epic structures come through the battle pass, events and in-app purchases.

The official site and the Scopely help center pages we checked do not publish drop rates for chests or bundles.

Based on what the official stores sell, we rate it as strongly pay to win; we will check this again when we play it ourselves.

Star Trek Fleet Command on PC, Mac, consoles and mobile

The official site lists Mac OS, Windows OS, iOS and Android OS. On desktop you download Scopely's own clients from startrekfleetcommand.com: a Windows installer that uses the Xsolla launcher and a macOS .dmg file. Scopely's help center says Mac users must install the game in the Applications folder. Mobile players use the App Store or Google Play.

Progress moves between devices through a Scopely Account. The help center says to save your mobile game to a Scopely Account, then sign in with the same credentials on the PC or Mac client; new players can start on desktop and save later from Settings. Scopely introduced Scopely Account in August 2021 for cross-platform play between mobile and PC.

The official site links only its own desktop installers and the two mobile stores, and it lists no console version.

Star Trek Fleet Command system requirements

Scopely's site and help center do not publish hardware requirements for the Windows or Mac clients, so this section sticks to what the stores state.

On Apple devices, the App Store version requires iOS or iPadOS 13.0 or later, and the download is about 1 GB. The App Store listing covers iPhone and iPad; Mac players use the separate desktop client from the official site instead. Google Play lists the Android version as free with in-app purchases and a Teen rating. The App Store describes it as an online game, so plan on a steady connection.

We will note real PC and phone performance, load times and battery use after our own sessions and update this section.
