What is Foundation: Galactic Frontier?
Foundation: Galactic Frontier is a sci-fi space strategy RPG developed and published by FunPlus International AG. The official FAQ says it is licensed from Isaac Asimov's Foundation novels and the Apple TV+ series produced by Skydance, with an original story set in that universe. You play an interstellar trader moving between the Galactic Empire, the Foundation and hostile groups, with Hari Seldon in an important role.
The game has two layers. In space, you build out a mothership and run fleets that use three weapon types: Beam, Kinetic and Ion. On the ground, you send a three-champion squad into third-person shooter missions on planets and space ruins. Players join Commerce Guilds to guard trade routes and fight for control of space ports.
The App Store lists October 20, 2025 as the first release. A September 2026 article describes the Epoch of Fusion Seed tech tree, which opens from week 27 after a server launches and lets buildings go from level 31 to 35.
Is Foundation: Galactic Frontier free to play?
Yes. The official FAQ says the game is free to play and that all core systems and story content, including mothership expansion, fleet combat and campaign chapters, cost nothing. It also says purchases are optional and that no purchase is needed for the full core content.
The App Store and Google Play list it as free with in-app purchases. As of October 29, 2026, the US App Store shows purchase packs from $0.99 to $99.99, and the official site links a Top-Up Center.
FunPlus's beginner guide says construction, research and other actions run on timers, and that Credits help speed those timers up. How far a free account gets before timers slow it down is something we will measure during our own play sessions.
Is Foundation: Galactic Frontier pay to win? What money buys
The FAQ says optional purchases mainly cover cosmetic customization, progression boosts and faster access to certain champions or ships. The US App Store lists ten top items, all named Purchase Packs, priced from $0.99 to $99.99 as of October 29, 2026. Its description notes in-game purchases that include random items, and Apple's age rating details list loot boxes.
FunPlus's beginner guide names the main resources: Food, Water, Metal and Galactic Coin for building and upgrades, Credits for speeding up timers and buying items, Action Points for missions, and Virtuous Memories for recruiting champions.
The September 2026 Fusion Seed article lists related packs among the sources of Fusion Seed, the resource needed for level 31 to 35 building upgrades. Guilds also fight over space ports and trade routes in what the FAQ calls large-scale conflicts. The official website and news pages do not publish recruitment drop rates, and they do not describe a battle pass or a monthly subscription.
Based on what the official stores sell, we rate it as strongly pay to win; we will check this again when we play it ourselves.
Foundation: Galactic Frontier on PC, Mac, consoles and mobile
Foundation: Galactic Frontier runs on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. The official site offers a PC launcher installer for Windows and an App Store link for Macs with Apple Silicon; the Mac version needs macOS 12 or later and an Apple M1 chip or newer.
According to the FAQ, the game supports cross-platform play and shared progress across all four systems with one account, so you can move between desktop and phone without starting over.
FunPlus announced a Steam version on January 23, 2026, and the Steam store page still reads "Coming soon" as of October 29, 2026. Until it launches, the official launcher is the way to play on a Windows PC. No console version is listed on the official site or in the FAQ.
Foundation: Galactic Frontier system requirements
The official site does not list PC specs, but the Steam page for the upcoming Steam version gives minimum requirements: 64-bit Windows 7 SP1 or later, an Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 or AMD Athlon x64 4000+, 4 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 or Radeon HD 4400 or better, DirectX 10, a broadband connection and 8 GB of storage. Steam lists no recommended specs.
On Apple devices, the App Store version needs iOS or iPadOS 13.0 or later, and the download is about 4 GB. On a Mac it requires macOS 12.0 or later and an Apple M1 chip or newer, so Intel Macs are not supported. We will add real-world performance notes for PC and phone after our own sessions.
