What is Evony: The King's Return?

Evony: The King's Return is a real-time strategy MMO from Top Games Inc. (TG Inc.). Its official page and store listings describe building cities, training troops, researching upgrades and expanding an empire on a world map, with seven civilizations that set your architecture: American, Chinese, European, Russian, Korean, Arabian and Japanese. You recruit historical Generals such as Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Julius Caesar and Genghis Khan to lead armies and run cities, and you can capture enemy Generals.

The listings also describe side modes: Survivor levels where you move, dodge and shoot, and puzzles that come with each Keep level-up. Alliances, voice and text chat with auto-translation, and cross-server events such as the All-Star Battlefield and the Battle of Chalons cover the multiplayer side.

The game came to the US App Store on April 27, 2016, and version 5.37.1 shipped there on October 28, 2026.

Is Evony free to play?

Yes. Both store listings call Evony: The King's Return a completely free-to-play game in which some items can also be bought with real money, and they say the Terms of Service require players to be at least 13. The Microsoft Store lists its Windows edition as free too.

Top Games' news posts describe rewards you can earn in events. During the October 2026 Harvest Festival, for example, Refined Iron Helmets dropped from Resource Spots and Monsters and counted toward rewards that could be exchanged for Historic Generals, skins and decorations, while Rare Gold Helmets came from event packages. The Alchemy Shop event let players earn Molten Ore from daily tasks and trade it for avatars and items.

Gems are the paid currency. As as of October 30, 2026, the US App Store lists Gem packs from 200 Gems for $0.99 to 25,000 Gems for $99.99, and Google Play shows a range of $0.49 to $299.99 per item.

Is Evony pay to win? What money buys

As as of October 30, 2026, the US App Store's top in-app purchases include Gem packs from $0.99 to $99.99, a Rally Monthly Card for $9.99, and $4.99 offers such as the Super Value Activity Package and Blessing of Flame. Top Games' July 2025 notes for version 5.03.0 list four monthly privileges, the Glory, Rally and Gold Monthly Cards and Right of Mining, with daily rewards such as Gems, resource chests and 24-hour speed-ups.

Event packages sell power items. The Harvest Festival packages offered Premium Gear Chests and a chance at the Epic Historic General Probus, and the King's Party gave Party Cake rewards for buying Gems, including Civilization Scroll Chests and a Historic General Chest. VIP levels also exist; Top Games' odds page ties VIP 11 and VIP 15 to extra Wheel of Fortune options.

Top Games publishes an odds page for randomized items, covering General chests, the Wheel of Fortune, Tavern recruits and refining, and Apple lists Loot Boxes. These Generals and gear fight in PvP, from sieges to alliance battles.

Based on what the official stores sell, we rate it as strongly pay to win; we will check this again when we play it ourselves.

Evony on PC, Mac and mobile

Top Games' own site links only the App Store and Google Play versions, though its About page says the game is available on mobile and PC. Two official store routes exist on Windows.

First, Google Play lists Windows as an available device, which means the Android version through Google Play Games on PC. Second, the Microsoft Store carries a Windows edition that its description says is co-published by Miracle Games Inc.; it was released there on September 21, 2022 and last updated on October 21, 2026, and the description says the PC version was optimized for large screens. Top Games links no Steam or Epic version.

On Macs, the App Store says the iPhone and iPad app runs on macOS 12.0 or later with an Apple M1 chip or later. On phones and tablets, the game comes from the App Store and Google Play, and the official site lists no console version.

Evony system requirements

Top Games does not publish hardware requirements. The Microsoft Store edition needs Windows 10 version 17763.0 or higher on an x86 or x64 PC, and the store lists a download of about 1.3 GB.

If you use Google Play Games on PC instead, Google's minimum applies: Windows 10 (v2004), 8 GB of RAM, four physical CPU cores, Intel UHD Graphics 630 or comparable, an SSD with 10 GB free and a Windows admin account.

On Apple devices, the App Store version needs iOS or iPadOS 15.0 or later and takes about 586 MB, and the same app runs on Apple silicon Macs with macOS 12.0 or later. The Android version comes from Google Play, which lists it as free with in-app purchases and an Everyone 10+ rating.
