Ragnarok X: Next Generation review

This Ragnarok X review is based on official sources and player reviews, not on our own play time. Ragnarok X: Next Generation is Gravity's officially licensed MMORPG based on Ragnarok Online. The global edition, run by Gravity Game Hub on North American server time, has been on the US App Store since May 2025 and is free on iOS, Android and Windows. Diamonds buy pass tiers, VIP cards, random draws and stat items traded in the player market.

What is Ragnarok X: Next Generation?

Ragnarok X: Next Generation, or ROX, is a 3D MMORPG that its store listings call the official next-generation evolution of Ragnarok Online. It keeps the original's world of Midgard, its job system and monsters such as Poring and Baphomet, and adds third-tier jobs, pets and life skills such as fishing, gardening, cooking and mining.

The edition sold in the US is the global one, published by Gravity Game Hub (GGH). Its news posts mark a half-year anniversary in November 2025 and a first anniversary in May 2026, and its event times follow North American server time. It is separate from the Asia-Pacific edition on ragnarokx.com, which has its own site and events.

PvE content includes main and side quests, dungeons, and MVP and MINI bosses. PvP covers arenas, Guild KVM, cross-server GvG, a GVG League and War of the Chosen, a 5v5 team tournament. The October 14, 2026 Comodo update raised the level cap to 110 and added six new areas.

Is Ragnarok X free to play? Can you play it in the US?

Yes on both counts. Ragnarok X: Next Generation is free to download on the US App Store and on Google Play, and the official global site offers a free Windows client. You pick a named server and play with the other players on it.

The store text says gear comes from boss drops and from trading with other players on the Exchange Center, the in-game market. Crystals and Zeny are earned in play: the new Comodo reputation board, for example, pays 300 and then 400 Crystals at its first milestones. Event battle passes have a free track as well as a paid one.

Gravity Game Hub has merged servers several times, most recently Thanatos and Al De Baran on October 14, 2026, and it opened new servers in May and July 2026. Per the merge notices, Exchange Center data, recharges, battle passes, monthly cards and privilege cards carry over when servers merge.

Is Ragnarok X pay to win? What money buys

The store text promises fair loot and free trading and says: "This is Trade-to-Win, not Cash-to-Win." Official update notes show where money still reaches character power.

The premium currency is Diamonds. On the US App Store, purchases run from $0.99 to $99.99 for 64,800 Diamonds as of October 30, 2026, plus a $4.99 30-day reward pack and a $4.99 VIP tier; the global site also sells Diamonds through a web top-up page. The Comodo notes say Divinities, a new item type with stats and effects that work in PvP, can be bought with Crystals or Diamonds on the Exchange Center, and pets such as Ghostring, whose skill raises attack and PvP debuff resistance, are sold there as Pet Cages.

Paid random items are common. Murmur Giftboxes can be bought with Diamonds, and their drop rates are listed in the update notes. The Astro Boy event's Warp Catcher draw shows its odds only in game, and a May 2026 web-store event, Goblin's Treasure, gave one draw per $10 recharged without listed odds. Paid pass tiers, pass levels at 1,500 Diamonds each, monthly cards and the Kafra VIP Card are also sold.

Based on what the official stores sell, we rate it as strongly pay to win; we will check this again when we play it ourselves.

Ragnarok X on PC, Steam and mobile

US players have two official ways to play on Windows. The global site, ragnarokx.net, links a Ragnarok X PC Version installer, and Google Play lists the game for Google Play Games on PC. Both store listings say progress carries over between mobile and PC.

On mobile, the US App Store version needs iOS 15.6 or later and is 3.8 GB, and Google Play asks for Android 9.0 with 2 GB of RAM or more. The App Store app was last updated on May 25, 2026, to version 2.4.0, while Google Play shows an update on October 26, 2026.

Steam is not an option in the US. The Steam listing for Ragnarok X: Next Generation is Nuverse's Asia-Pacific edition, released there on March 10, 2026, and the US Steam store does not offer it. The global site lists no Mac or console version.

Ragnarok X system requirements

Gravity Game Hub publishes no system requirements for its own Windows client. The official US PC requirements come from Google Play Games on PC.

Minimum for Google Play Games on PC: Windows 10 version 2004, a CPU with four physical cores, 8 GB of RAM, Intel UHD Graphics 630 or a comparable GPU, a solid-state drive with 10 GB of free space, a Windows admin account, and hardware virtualization turned on. Google lists no recommended tier.

On phones and tablets, the App Store requires iOS 15.6 or iPadOS 15.6 or later and lists a 3.8 GB size, and Google Play states Android 9.0 and 2 GB of RAM or higher.

For comparison, the Asia-Pacific Steam edition lists 64-bit Windows 7, an Intel Core i3-8100, 8 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 750 Ti and 36 GB of storage as its minimum, but that build is not sold in the US.
