What is Merge Dragons?

Merge Dragons! is a free-to-play merge puzzle and camp-building game for iPhone, iPad and Android from Gram Games, a Zynga studio; the app is governed by Zynga's terms, and the App Store dates its release to June 28, 2017. You merge three or more matching objects, such as dragon eggs, trees, fallen stars and treasures, into rarer ones, and you hatch dragons that roam your camp and harvest items for you.

The App Store listing counts more than 500 objects, over 180 puzzle levels, nearly 900 quests and over 1,600 object combinations. Each level hides Gaia statues to find and merge, and Dragon Power from your camp pushes back the fog the Zomblins cast over Dragonia.

New limited-edition dragon breeds arrive with bi-weekly themed events. Seasons last several weeks (Whispering Woods ran from September 8 to October 6) and offer an optional Royal Pass, while Dens let groups of players chat, share tips and earn group rewards.

Is Merge Dragons free to play?

Yes. Both store listings say Merge Dragons! is free to download and includes optional in-game purchases, including random items, and Google Play notes that it contains ads. The listings suggest turning off in-app purchases in your device settings if you do not want them.

Progress comes from play: merging objects, clearing more than 180 levels and close to 900 quests, daily quests with Kala, and bi-weekly events with their own rewards. Seasons add rewards over several weeks, and the Royal Pass is an extra paid layer on top that, per Zynga, adds 30 extra rewards and boosts during a season.

Google Play says the game may be played without an internet connection, so you do not need to stay online. Zynga also runs a web store at mergedragons.com that sells Gems, and its help center says web purchases give 10% more Gems than the in-game store.

Is Merge Dragons pay to win? What money buys

As of October 30, 2026, the US App Store lists Dragon Gem packs from $4.99 for a Pile of Dragon Gems to $99.99 for a Volcano of Dragon Gems, plus a Royal Pass for $9.99, a 30 Day Dragon Gem Payout for $3.99, Premium Land for $6.99 and an Event Pack for $9.99. Merge Dragons! Plus, a standalone Android APK from Zynga, advertises better-value deals.

The Royal Pass lasts from purchase until the end of the season and, per Zynga, is not a subscription. It unlocks 30 extra rewards and instant boosts: dragons do everything 2% faster and sleep less, the Chalice refills 5% faster, and Magic Coin and Stone Brick storage grows.

Random items are sold, and the App Store lists Loot Boxes. Zynga's help center has a Drop Rates section covering chests, nests, event capsules and more; in a Chance Chest, rare whelps such as the Zeus Dragon Whelp are listed at 0.74% each. The official descriptions list no player-versus-player mode, so purchases speed up progress against the game itself.

Based on what the official stores sell, we rate it as mildly pay to win; we will check this again when we play it ourselves.

Merge Dragons on PC, Mac and mobile

There is no Windows version of Merge Dragons!. Zynga offers no PC download, the game is not available through Google Play Games on PC, and Zynga's help center tracks versions only for iOS, Android and Amazon's Android store.

Mac is different. The App Store listing says the iPhone and iPad app runs on a Mac with macOS 12.0 or later and an Apple M1 chip or later, so owners of Apple silicon Macs can install it from the App Store on their Mac. Intel Macs are not covered. The listing also includes Apple Vision Pro with visionOS 1.0 or later.

On Android, besides Google Play, Zynga distributes Merge Dragons! Plus, a standalone APK with its own deals, and an Amazon version for Fire OS devices. The mergedragons.com web store sells Gems for your account but is not a way to play the game.

Zynga's help center has guides for keeping progress through Cloud Save, including Apple Sign-in on iOS.

Merge Dragons system requirements

There are no PC requirements, because there is no Windows version. On Apple devices, the App Store listing requires iOS 15.0 or later on iPhone and iPod touch, iPadOS 15.0 or later on iPad, macOS 12.0 or later on a Mac with an Apple M1 chip or later, and visionOS 1.0 or later on Apple Vision Pro. The download is 436.3 MB.

On Android, Google Play's listing asks for Android 7.1 and up, and the store text says the game is optimized for tablets. Zynga's help center has troubleshooting steps for Android and Amazon Fire OS devices, a battery saver mode explanation and tips for better performance.

Google Play says Merge Dragons! may be played without an internet connection, which helps on a tablet without mobile data.

These merge games from our catalog are also free on iOS and Android:

Merge Magic!: Gram Games' other merge game under Zynga, released in 2019, where you merge eggs to hatch and evolve magical creatures, solve puzzle levels and bring rewards back to restore a cursed garden. Its structure of levels plus a home base is the closest match to Merge Dragons! in our catalog.

EverMerge: a sandbox merge game now published by JetSynthesys, with storybook characters such as Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, castles to build on an open board and a Mystic Isle for creatures that unlocks at level 9. Merging five pieces instead of three gives a bonus.
